Specifications

HD Panels are made with expanded polystyrene (EPS) — a tough, high-density, closed cell foam insulation engineered to a minimum compression strength of 30 psi to support the weight of cast-inplace concrete. HD Panels are also available in 60 and 100 psi. HD Panels are 2 ½” thick (R-10)*.

Applications

HD Panels panels can be used in all concrete slab applications, including:

HD Panels are also suitable for vertical installations.

Estimating

  1. Measure the length and width to determine the size of the area where you want to install HD.
  2. The panels are 8 sq. ft. each. Divide the area by 8 to get the number of panels required.
  3. See Sizes & Packaging Chart for bundle quantities. When ordering, please round up to the nearest.

Installation Steps

Laying HD Panels on a Horizontal Surface

  1. Ensure the ground is reasonably level before beginning installation.
  2. Remove the interlock from two sides of the starting panel to avoid an air gap. It’s easiest to remove the interlock you can see when looking at the back of the panel. Starting in a corner, place the cut edges tight against the wall.
  3. For the next panel, cut the interlock on the 4’ length only. Place the trimmed panels so they interlock along the 2’ dimension.
  4. Continue placing panels until you come to a wall. You will likely need to cut the final panel in this row to fit.
  5. Use the leftover segments to start the next row. The idea is to have a staggered (running bond) layout rather than rows or columns. This helps keep the panels bound together and reduces waste.

Installation On Vertical Surfaces

Securely fasten using appropriate methods such as adhesive or mechanical fasteners.

Vapor and Air Barrier Requirements

Meets vapor and air barrier requirements per the National Building Code of Canada and the International Residential Code. With the interlock, sealed joints are not required for HD Panels to serve as the vapor retarder. If HD Panels are intended to act as the air barrier, it is essential to seal the joints using a liquid-applied sealant or tape.
